Croft Biodiversity Project

In 2025 Earth in Common was awarded £5,000 by the Royal Society of Edinburgh and the Williamson Trust to run an exciting new project at Leith Community Croft: 'Improving biodiversity in urban green spaces using participatory citizen science'.

Building on our 2020 agrobiodiversity survey, which showed that Leith Community Croft is wonderful for biodiversity (supports many forms of life), it puts Crofters at the heart of the action. It officially runs until August 2026, but we hope to keep it going beyond that.

Participants are following their enthusiasms and learning how to identify, record and foster Nature in its many forms (not forgetting that we are also part of Nature and need some 'fostering' too - we usually have snacks and drinks at our meetings!)
