ArtRoots Container Project

Background
The containers on Leith Community Croft provide vital storage and workshop space (including for bike repairs and refurbishment), but they were unsightly.
We were delighted to receive support from Sustrans and Transport Scotland under their Places for Everyone ArtRoots funding stream to employ mural artists Natasha Russell and Shona Hardie to decorate them.
We are also grateful to our own renaissance man, Tom Watson, who prepared the plywood foundation for the David Morrison portrait, shown above.

More to come!
The decoration of the containers is only the first part of this project. We wanted to create a truly meaningful tribute to the late and much lamented David Morrison, who was a fixture on Leith Community Croft, where he created a biodiverse little nature haven just to the right of the main gate as you come in. He was also a familiar sight as he pedalled around Leith on his bike.

We hope soon to have QR codes on the containers which will take you to:

-
a comprehensive Edinburgh and region resource page, with maps and links relating to:
-
sustainable transport (including cycle routes)
-
nature-related, food-growing and sustainability projects (including the new urban crofts in Corstorphine and Trinity, which we are helping the local communities to develop, with support from the City of Edinburgh Council as part of their thriving green spaces work)

Our containers are but a stone's throw from this striking Sustrans-sponsored Leith Connections street art by Bigg Design, where Johns Place meets Queen Charlotte Street.
